Access to Online@UT Based on Role
The Course Availability function is used to control access to the course. If the course is set to available, all users participating in the course will have access. If the course is set to unavailable, access is determined by course role as described below.Course Builder
A Course Builder has access to all modules in the control panel except the assessment module and the ability to remove users and manage groups. The course roster is not available to a Course Builder.Grader
The grading role allows instructors access to the course roster and to the assessment module in Blackboard. This allows the Grader to create a survey, quiz or test and set availability of these assessment tools at specific times and durations. The grades are then available to students individually.Guest
Users with the role of Guest have no access to the Course Control Panel. If Guest access is enabled by the System Administrator, an Instructor can make areas within a Course accessible to unauthenticated users or Guest users. Visitors to the Blackboard Academic Suite such as prospective students, alumni or parents may be given the role of Guest.Instructor
The Instructor has full access to all modules in the control panel and access to the course roster. In order to become a certified Online@UT Instructor, you must complete the CMS 110 workshop, which can be accomplished in a face-to-face workshop or online. After completing CMS 110, an instructor may assume the Instructor role in courses. (Register for the CMS 110 workshop online at ITC workshops)Student
Student is the default Course User Role. A user with the role of Student has no access to any areas on the Course Control Panel.Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA)
The GTA role, like the Instructor role, has full access to all modules in the control panel, but does not have access to the course roster.Note:
- Only faculty, GTAs, and staff with teaching responsibilities can be certified
- Instructors who want to take advantage of all Online@UT has to offer should explore and register for ITC workshops
